Australian Citizenship (by Immigration)
- Requirements:
- Must be a permanent resident.
- Lived in Australia in the past 3 out of 4 years.
- Must be of 'good character' and uphold and obey the laws of Australia.
- Must understand what it means to be an Australian citizen.
- Need a basic knowledge of the English language to become an Australian citizen.
- Must intend to live in Australia or maintain a close and continuing association with Australia while overseas.
Australian Citizenship (born overseas - Australian Parent)
- Requirements:
- Born outside Australia on or after 26 January 1949.
- One or both parents at the time of birth, was also an Australian citizen.

- The parent will need to have spent at least 2 years lawfully in Australia before a citizen application lodgement, if the parent became an Australian citizen:
- by descent, or
- by adoption outside Australia.
- Must be of 'good character' and uphold and obey the laws of Australia.
Australian Citizenship - other
- There are many other ways to qualify for Australian Citizenship; such as:
- Child 15 years or younger applying on their own.
- Born to a former Australian citizen.
- Child adopted outside Australia by an Australian citizen.
- Person born in Papua before independence in 1975.
- Become an Australian again.
