May 2013

Welcome to the National Visas May newsletter.

In this edition we would like to introduce you to our featured service − the ‘Visa Review Service’.

With our Visa Review Service a Registered Migration Agent personally reviews your case to determine your range of possible visa options and pathways. We then provide you a Visa Guide which explains your options and eligibility requirements to you. If you are not sure which visa to apply for, or just want to understand your various options, this service is an excellent starting point.

In this edition we also provide some current information about Australian visas and immigration as well as our ‘hot tip’ for the month, success stories and a profile about our featured registered migration agent this month; Esther Geary.

We hope you find the newsletter interesting.

The Advantages of Using a Registered Migration Agent
Applying for an Australia visa can be a confusing and frustrating process especially if it is your first time. There may be many important details that you need to know which seem small but could be very relevant to your situation and application. You could lose that single chance you have of getting an approval if you don't do it the right way.

The Health Requirement for Australian visas
Applicants for any Australian visa are aware that they will be required to meet the health requirement. For permanent visas, the health requirement also applies to non-migrating family members under the 'one fail all fail' health requirement.

English Language Requirements for Skilled Migration Visas
Applicants for skilled migration visas must meet at least the threshold level of English language requirements. This can normally be done using the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). There are two different types of IELTS test; General and Academic. Whether or not to take the academic or general mode of the test will depend on your occupation.

The minimum score you will need is 6 in each of the 4 components of the IELTS test − speaking, reading, writing and listening. This can be considered the basic or 'qualifying score'. Without this score you cannot apply. An average score of 6 will not meet the requirements − it must be 6 in each category.

‘Hot Tip’ for May:

Every year on the 1st of July the Department of Home Affairs raises its visa application fees for most visa types.

For those of you considering applying for an employer sponsored visa, you should also be aware DIAC also normally raises the amount an overseas worker must be paid on this date (the 'income threshold').

If you want to avoid the increased visa fees or the raised income threshold for a sponsored employee, you need to get the process started as soon as possible.

You can start the employer sponsored visa process here:
