Depending on where you live it can include trains, buses, trams and ferries. You can buy tickets at train stations, ferry wharves, at news agencies or onboard buses and trams. International students are eligible for travel concessions in some states. Ask your institution if you are suitable.

This is a way to help you save money for your retirement, if you become an invalid or for your beneficiaries upon your death. It is known in other countries as your retirement income or pension. It is also commonly referred to in Australia simply as “super”.

Employers of Australian working visa holders must co-contribute to the individual’s superannuation if he or she is an eligible employee. This means that the employee must be 18 years old or above, but not over 70 years of age. Additionally, he or she must also be paid at least $450 per calendar month before taxes. The Australian visa holder must also have full-time, part-time or casual work.

If you are an eligible Australian work visa holder, then your employer is required to pay at least 9% of your earnings for regular work hours. The superannuation remittance is called the super guarantee payments and is normally paid on a quarterly basis.

The superannuation monies go into a fund. There are two types: the super funds (which is managed by trustees) and the retirement savings account. These funds have their own rules but must also comply with the government standards. They are generally called complying super funds.

You are entitled to access your retirement savings when you leave Australia, especially if you are on a temporary resident visa. This payment is not made available to permanent Australian citizens because they have the option to retire in the country. This is called the Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP).

The payment can be processed online. The Australian visa holder just needs to provide his or her tax file number, personal details, passport number and superannuation fund details including the name of the fund and the account number.

The change was made effective on July 1, 2009 to ensure safety and to prevent fraud.

The extensive skills assessment aims to confirm the skills of applicants for an Australian work visa. As part of the changes, the English language requirement has been raised form a minimum of 4.5 IELTS score to 5 IELTS.

Furthermore, Trades Recognition Australia has been tasked to introduce formal skills assessment for Australian work visa applicants and chefs. During the pilot of this program, five trades from 10 countries must undertake the five-step skills assessment. Other countries and trades will be introduced progressively as capacities increase.

In the first part of the skills assessment for the Australian work visa, the applicant will be required to use a self-evaluation tool to determine if their skills and training match the needs of the Australian labour market. Visa applicants must also submit evidence of their skills and experiences to their selected Registered Training Organisation for assessment. The applicant will be required to participate in a technical interview and the qualified assessor will provide documentation about their assessment.

Also, a separate Skills Assessment attachment will be made available to applicants of this Australian work visa. This should be submitted with the application lodged between July 1 to mid-September. From September 14 onwards, application form 1066 will include the Skills Assessment section.

In addition to this criterion, there are also other eligibility requirements for the Australian work visa including the Australian Values Statement, character requirements, health requirements and more.
