Immigration Australia: Study Requirement

  • Sharebar

One of the requirements of the General Skilled Migration visa is the Australian Study Requirement. Two academic years of study is required for eligibility and this must have been met six months prior to lodging the application.

Additionally, there are two main components of the Australian study requirement: 1) you must have studied a minimum of at least 16 calendar months in a CRICOS course and; 2) you must have completed two academic years of registered study.

In the 92 weeks of academic study, it does not have to be for full-time study. What is measured is the amount of study completed not how long it took to complete the study. For instance, if you take a 92-week course in just 78 weeks, it will only count for 78 weeks.

The course requirements for this Australian immigration visa must be either a degree, a diploma or a trade qualification. It should also be undertaken at an Australian educational institution in Australia, it must be conducted in English and must be registered with CRICOS.

The qualifications completed for this Australian immigration visa must be closely related to your nominated skilled occupation. This means that what you studies and the skills you earned during your education must be applied in your nominated occupation. For instance, those who nominate pharmacist as their skilled occupation must have completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy in Australia. Those who nominate Electrical Engineer as their skilled occupation must have completed a Bachelor and Masters Degree for Engineering in Australia.
