Australian Student Visa: Education Providers

  • Sharebar

For any person applying for an Australian Student Visa, the education provider plays a big role in acquiring and maintaining the visa status. Visa applicants must present the letter of offer from an Australian school, college or university as part of their application.

As a registered education provider for international students on an Australia student visa, the letter of offer provided must contain specific data to support the visa application. If these are not present, it may delay processing of the Australian student visa application. As such, the letter of offer must contain information on tuition fee costs – including the amount for the entire course. This is calculated by aggregating the highest estimate per semester. It should also show the course duration detailing items such as start dates, end dates and the length of the course. This should also include CRISCOS codes such as the code of the education provider and the course. All other specific conditions (such as a conditional offer of a place) must also be included in the letter of offer.

It is also the responsibility of the educational provider to monitor and report breaches of attendance and course progress. This is reported visa the Provider Registration and International Student Management System (PRISMS). The Australian student visa may be revoked if the student does not achieve satisfactory attendance or maintain satisfactory course progress. Any course withdrawal should also be properly reported to immigration authorities.

Some educational providers, such as boarding schools, provide care arrangements for students less than 18 years old. If this is the case, the educational provider must provide a signed statement confirming the period for arrangements for the student’s welfare, accommodation and support. The period nominated must match at least the duration of stated in the student’s Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) plus seven days or until the student turns 18. Any changes in the education provider’s care arrangement for Australia Student Visa holders under 18 years of age must also be reported via PRISMS.
