With the economic uncertainties being faced by many countries today working abroad has become a viable option to create opportunities for oneself. The multicultural society and nondiscriminatory visa approval process has resulted in Australia has become one of the most popular immigration destinations.

However, although Australia is very willing to welcome foreigners there are existing immigration policies that have to be followed which primarily favor the entry of people who can contribute to their economy. There are several visa classes and categories that one has to qualify for in order to gain entry to Australia. Among these is the Employer Sponsored Visas.

The Employer Sponsored visas are a type of visa suitable for employers who have a skilled job vacancy and cannot fill it form the domestic work force.

One type of Employer Sponsored Visa is the temporary 457 Visa. This consists of three distinct stages the Standard Business Sponsorship, Nomination and Visa Application.

Standard Business Sponsorship

The first stage of the application involves the employer proving that it is lawfully and actively operating. Start-up businesses operating for less than 12 months can still apply with varied document requests.

Lastly, the company has to also prove that it has and will continue to train its Australian staff or contribute to a Training fund.

Nomination
For this stage, the employer has to nominate an occupation from the approved list and explain the desired skills, experience and qualifications of the position. The proposed salary for the position also needs to be at market salary rate and above the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT).

Visa Application
The Visa applicant needs to evidence that they have the required skills, work experience and qualifications (if applicable) to work in the nominated occupation.

Once approved the 457 visa will be valid for up to 4 years.
