Australia, July 15, 2009 – Tourists and travelers will have something new to look forward to in the coming years. The world’s longest golf course is scheduled to open in Australia this year. The golf course will be 1,365 kilometres long (848 miles) spanning 18 tows and service stations.

The Nullarbor Links will have two time zones and will measure more than the entire length of Britain. It is expected to be ready by next month to hold the inaugural tournament on October 22.

The 71-par course was built to attract tourists to the Eyre Highway, which spans the desolate Nullarbor Plain and part of Australia’s southern coastline. It will take approximately three to four days to complete and players will be awarded certificates once they do.

Each course is designed to showcase a local attraction such as whale-watching, ancient fossil beds and working sheep station. It even includes such sights as the Big Kangaroo statue at the Border Village.

“We’re very excited about it. It’s been a long time coming and a lot of effort,” says project chairman Don Harrington. “Both Australian tourists and golfing enthusiasts around the world have shown support for what we’re doing.”

“This is the longest golf course in the world. It’s unique terrain, there’s something for everybody,” he adds.
