July 14, 2011 – Australia’s booming resources industry, with its multi-billion dollar projects underway of roughly $400 billion in new projects, is still on the drawing board and has opened employment opportunities for mining jobs.

As Australia’s mining and resource industry tries to fill up its labor needs in an attempt to start their operations on full scale, it has increased the availability of permanent jobs as well as temporary jobs ideal for tourists and skilled migrants alike.
In the midst of the booming resources industry, $380 billion of new investments are planned for resource projects. Western Australia alone is planning a more than A$225 billion of resource and infrastructure projects which has driven the demand for skilled staff in the mining and construction sectors.
With the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry predicting that the state will need an additional 300,000 skilled workers over the next 10 years to cope with predicted labor shortages, with 155,000 of those jobs created over the next four years due to export-led growth, the state government is now searching offshore to help solve the skills shortage.
The substantial projects in WA and the state facing the prospect of a shortage of skilled workers which is forecast to hit 150,000 by 2017 has led the WA government to send a delegation of officials to attend the Opportunities Australia Expo to discuss state-based sponsorship for migrants who qualify under the Skilled Migration Occupation List and to recruit potential skilled migrant workers.
Heading the delegation is Peter Collier, Western Australia’s Minister for training and workforce development, along with a special delegation from the Western Australian Government.
In the next 10 days, the WA delegation will be touring British cities which include Leeds, Aberdeen and London, as well as a visit to Dublin.
Collier said that his delegation will focus on searching for skilled workers both in trades areas and project managers and the like.
With this campaign, an expected rise in the number of travel visas to Australia application is predicted.
To assist potential migrants with information about job prospects, rents and salaries as well as inquiries regarding tourist visas to Australia or travel visas Australia, Western Australia’s government has set up a “skilled migration portal”.
Over the past year, Western Australia has accounted for about a quarter of the total growth in the national economy, and contributes more than 36% of the nation’s export income.
