WA premier backs relaxing Visa test
March 22, 2011 – Australia has a growing economy and it is one of the world’s well developed countries. It is but important for Australia to keep it that way or even improve more to make their country more prosperous than ever. Thus, Australia hasn’t stopped letting foreign investors to build their companies here. New businesses arise; thus, more labor needed. But the problem for overseas workers is the difficulty encountered in availing visas for Australia especially for non-english countries.
It is such great news for West Australian Premier Colin Barnett who supports in making the English language test a bit easier compared before. This test is for those skilled overseas workers applying for employer-sponsored ‘457′ temporary work visas. This will help overseas skilled workers to have easier access for their visas for Australia. They may also apply for visitor visa to Australia or working holiday Australia visa.
The premier said this would be of help to get more skilled workers into West Australia to avoid future skills shortage. He also said that migrants do adapt quickly and when they do start working, they can learn the English language quickly. Thus, it is expected that people can easily acquire their visas to Australia.
WA’s Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier recently had a meeting with Skills, Jobs and Workplace Relations Minister Chris Evans and Immigration and Citizenship Minister Chris Bowen in Canberra to discuss their main concern regarding the need for additional work force in West Australia.
It has been noted by Mr. Collier that the state will face a shortage of up to 150,000 skilled workers by 2017. He emphasized that their meeting with Senator Evans and Mr. Bowen focused more on how to be a bit lenient in giving out the visas for Australia.
They will also review and reconstruct the International English Language Test Score which will have to exclude skilled workers from non-English countries.
An important point in their discussion was the need to increase the number of skilled occupations that qualified for ‘457′ employer-sponsored visas. It is also important to give out working holiday visas and student visas, and incentives to increase the number of foreign students entering Australia. This will help promote the number of skilled workers in Australia in the future.
