Victoria, Feb 23 – Victoria’s bushfires death toll has reached 210, as fresh fires continue to plague firefighters. This figure is up from the tally of 209 police released on Friday.

The additional fatality was confirmed in the township of Strathewen which has now lost 43 of its 200 residents.

Meanwhile, a house in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs has been hit by an out of control bushfire which is being fought by 100 firefighters.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) says the house in Belgrave South has been burned while other suburbs in the Dandenong Ranges are under threat from the 15-hectare fire.

Residents in Upwey, Tecoma, Belgrave Heights, Belgrave South and Lysterfield have been urged by the CFA to decide early whether to defend their homes, while many nervous residents who can see smoke in nearby areas such as Ferntree Gully have evacuated.

At Daylesford, northwest of Melbourne, houses are under threat where a fire is burning over 250 hectares.

Temperatures have been in the mid-30s today with a total fire ban declared in all but Victoria’s southwestern region.
