Tourism in Australia still On the Rise

September 13, 2011 – Despite of the strong Australian dollar, natural disasters in Queensland and global economic distresses, tourism in Australia has been remarkably good in the past year.
According to industry chief, Tourism Australia boss Andrew McEvoy, in a recently released figures, it revealed that:
there was an increase of 2.7 per cent relative to the previous year, with 5.9 million visitor arrivals with travel visas to Australia during the year ended July 2011

Tourism Australia is the Australia Government agency responsible for the international and domestic marketing of Australia as a destination for leisure and business travel.
Moreover, according to Tourism Research Australia’s International Visitor Survey, figures revealed that there was a rise of 4 per cent in visitor nights and spending by five per cent.
Furthermore, numbers were up in business travel, showing an increase of 9 per cent, with Asian markets the strongest performers led by China, showing 54,000 visitors with australia visitors visa during July 2011 bringing the total for the seven months to July 2011 to 327,100, an increase of 19.0 per cent relative to the same period of the previous year.
According to McEvoy, the Asia Pacific region continues to deliver strong tourism growth, with China leading the market, and followed by Malaysia, India, Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand. While the UK, Eurozone and US markets, which is still in the grip of ongoing financial difficulties, had shown small declines.
Meanwhile, according to Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson, despite the global economic trends and the high showing of the Australian dollar, the latest tourism figures still were encouraging. However, some parts of regional Australia are still doing it tough.
The Minister urged Australians to show their support to the local industry by holidaying at home as well as the Australian tourism industry to invest in innovative ways in promoting and making the country a more attractive place for business or vacation; thus, attracting more people to apply for tourist visas to Australia or any other travel visa Australia.
