Australia June 6, 2011 – Aside from being known as the flattest continent, Australia is also known for its oldest and least fertile soils and desert commonly known as the Outback, which makes up by far the largest portion of the continent.

The large section of remote and wild Australia known as the Australian Outback has been the subject of myths, legends, and enthrallment ever since Europeans have arrived on this interesting and incredibly diverse continent.

The term, “The Outback”, is generally referred to as the “back of beyond” or “beyond the black stump” which means the locations that are comparatively more remote than those areas named “The Bush”, the scrubby rural regions of Australia.
The Australian Outback has been a favorite tourist destination for backpackers and adventurous tourists alike for over many years. Its arid desert has been quite a lure to adventurous tourists who want to experience the complexities that the Outback has to offer.

The Outback Flooded

Floods in the Australian state of Queensland last December and January have quite an effect in the Outback.

The once rare sight has become flooded as rain continues to pour over the Outback.

Though the continued rain has flooded the Outback, it has also caused many positive effects as aquifers being recharged, claypans being drenched, and the outback waterholes being filled.

The continuous rain has soaked remote parts of the desert which have not seen a drop for years which has resulted in vegetation starting to sprout and native mammals, reptiles and birds returning.

Waterbirds are starting to colonize in water filled waterholes.

Though the Outback has become flooded, the flood has opened the way for more animals and vegetation to thrive in the land beyond.

With these recent developments, the Outback has become more attractive to tourists.

With the government’s move to attract more tourists to Australia, the government made changes to strengthen the tourism sector.

The government has made several changes with regards the tourist visa for Australia. Requirements and the travel visa to Australia process have been made more open to entice tourists to apply for visas to travel to Australia.
