The Increasing Rate of Irish Emigrating to Australia
February 3, 2011 – The name of County Bondi has been a fast earning due to the tens of thousands Irish that set up home in and around one of the world’s most famous beaches. It used to be a big backpacker haunt. But the recession in Ireland made the Irish no longer coming here to travel. Instead, it was the place where they set up their homes and the surrounding suburbs of Bondi Junction, Bronte and Randwick. Here, they seek work in an economy that is at full employment.
Australia is one of those few countries that rarely experience recession and one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. Work is plenty here but there has been a major skills shortage especially those under medicine, nursing, engineering and construction industry. Due to this skills shortage, the government has implemented some changes on the process of work visas Australia application.
Good news for unemployed Irish who are thinking of emigrating Down Under as the country will require tens of thousands of skilled migrants over the next few years. Those who are under 30 and on a two-year working holiday Australia visa have the privilege of traveling anywhere in the country.
There are 30,000 of work visa to Australia alone that is estimated which figure doesn’t take into account the thousands who are on sponsored visas – often organized by their employers. The report of the huge influx of Irish in Australia shows the changes that make it easier for the Irish to get more permanent resident visas which will take effect on 1st of July. The report also shows the increasing numbers of Irish who use their two-year work visa in Australia illegally. The next report shows the boom in construction industry in and round Sydney. While the final report shows the lack of facilities for the nine GAA clubs across Sydney.
