March 17, 2011 – Recently, Taiwanese people were granted to enjoy visa-free travel or visa on arrival privileges to two more countries. The number of countries they are allowed to enter rose up to 99 countries. Taiwanese people can enter those countries if they are holders of the Republic of China (ROC) passport. This good news was announced by President Ma Ying-jeou.
Those with electronic travel visas to Australia and are holders of Republic of China passports will be allowed to enter Australia. One must first acquire visas for Australia before anything else. And if one will already have the visas to Australia, then they can easily and smoothly enter Australia. Aside from Australia, Taiwanese people can also enter Montenegro without a visa. Ma announced this during the 150th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ma is optimistic that related negotiations will be granted and that before the year ends, the number of countries granting visa-free privileges will reach 100 countries.
Regarding the diplomatic dispute Taiwan has with the Philippines due to the deportation of 14 Taiwanese fraud suspects to China, he noted that the ministry tried to make an effort for both parties to come to an agreement. They admitted that the Phillipines apologized for what they did but they are firm in taking actions in giving proper punishment for the wrongdoers.
Ma admitted that the relationship between Taiwan and the Philippines was not at all disrupted but instead, a stronger bond between the two countries was built and they both made amends. The two countries negotiated and made a deal on mutual judicial assistance and possible economic cooperation agreement.
Ma commented positively that the Philippines handled the case smoothly under the principle of diplomatic flexibility. Thus, it is expected that more negotiations will done between these two countries. We’ll just have to wait and see.
