Swine Flu Closes Down Two More Schools
Australia, June 15, 2009 – Two more schools in West Australia will close on Monday with reports of students contracting swine flu. The state currently has 66 cases with 17 more awaiting test results.
According to the WA Department of Health, four students at Wesley College in South Perth have tested positive for the H1N1 influenza. Two of them are boarding students. WA communicable disease spokesman Dr. Gary Dowse said all boarding students will be quarantined.
Only 420 kilometres away, in the coastal city of Geraldton, St Francis Xavier Primary School will also be closing down. A year 3 boy tested positive for the virus. Staff and family members of the infected student will be receiving antiviral medication.
”People with mild illness without any risk factors do not need to go and see a doctor, they can stay at home and rest until they are well,” advised Dowse. “They should not go to school, work or other public places while they have a fever and acute symptoms of coughing and sneezing.”
Meanwhile, three western suburb schools which partially closed after students tested positive to the virus are set to open on Monday.
