Student visa applicants can use their TOEFL score to satisfy visa requirements

Australia, May 23, 2011 – Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has recently announced that TOEFL test scores will now be art of the student’s visa application requirement.

International students who wish to study in Australia and are applying for Australia visa must take the TOEFL test.

Accepted by more than 8,000 institutions in more than 130 countries, the TOEFL test is the most-widely accepted English language assessment in the world.

This move will surely benefit the Australian higher education institutions for they will now have access to more quality international students coming from a wide variety of institutions of different countries.

Mr. Jeffrey Smart, Swinburne’s Pro Vice- Chancellor (International and Recruitment), stated that these new development in the student’s Australian immigration process will be advantageous to all Australia’s universities and institutions for they will now have the chance to compete for talented international students.

Aside from Australian universities, VET and English language providers alike would surely welcome the recent addition for the student visa requirement for before, students coming to Australia from Assessment Level 3 and 4 countries will only take one English language assessment.

Smart said, “As a widely accepted English language assessment worldwide, the TOEFL test is very famous with potential students and agents in all of Australia’s major source markets.”

Smart explained that the recent decision will boost Australia’s international student recruitment efforts for Australia’s universities and colleges will now have a chance to compete for talented international students with students from 165 countries taking the TOEFL test.

Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ETS’s Global Division, Mr. David Hunt, said that the recent move will benefit both international students and the Australian higher education alike for many more international students will take into consideration Australian universities as one of their choices for there is no need to take a second English test for visa purposes.

Almost all universities and colleges in Australia accept TOEFL scores for admission purposes but now, student visa applicants can use their TOEFL score to satisfy visa requirements.

Mr. Hunt added that they expect that in the near future, TOEFL test will also be accepted for skilled migration purposes as well.
