South Australia, August 11, 2009 – The future looks bright for young local job seekers in South Australia. The Australian Bureau of Statistics recently released figures that state 8.4 percent of 15 to 19-year-olds in South Australia are looking for full-time work.

Micheal O’Brien, the State Employment, Training and Further Education minister, said that the comparatively low youth unemployment rate may be linked to a number of causes. South Australia’s strong economy could be one considerable factor. SA has the lowest youth unemployment rate in Australia. The results are also attributed to increased TAFE and university enrolments as well as government initiatives.

“There’s been a 28 percent increase in TAFE SA mid-year applications across the state and a 23 percent increase in offers of training places overall, according to South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre figures,” said O’Brien.

Several programs have also been established in SA that encourages employers to offer jobs and training to younger people. YEP110 initiative and Youthinc are examples of these. These programs aim to help long-term unemployed and disadvantaged SA youths to find work. YEP110 is targeting to help 110 young people and has already been deployed for half of its target audience.
