Security on Federal Government border security initiative

Australia, December 7, 2009 – The protection on visa applicants has recently announced by the Immigration Minister Chris Evans. As the report stated that in process on security people will be asked to conduct a digital scan of their faces and fingerprints. This is to secure and help Australia’s border added by Senator Evans as part of the visa assessment and processing.

“This initiative will improve our current processes for identity checking and assessing people’s claims for protection under the Refugees Convention. It will also strengthen out ability to detect inconsistent identity and immigration claims.” he said.

Facial and fingerprints scanning are already been conducting in Department of Immigration and Citizenship. As part of the health assessment also, the biometric information has been taken.

These images will be shared to other countries like Britain, US and Canada as to know applicant’s immigration histories according to Senator Evan.

Voluntaries would be settled in Sydney and Melbourne for about six months. However if applicants don’t want this process they can have their as normal. The Government will think about increasing the initiative nationally and making it required at the end of the pilot program.
