Queensland still ranks high with Tourists
February 2, 2011 Queensland – In the latest survey done by online accommodation website, the Wotif.com, Queensland has chosen eight of the top 20 tourist destinations in Australia. These figures were done at the time when Queensland destinations struggle to draw tourist visitors after the devastating floods in the state. 2010 state’s haul of eight is a big increase compared from 6 in 2009.
The top spot in the Sunshine State is the Gold Coast which comes in at number three spot in the national list knocking Brisbane down to fourth place. It was followed by Sunshine Coast and then by Cairns and Townsville. Port Douglas and Airlie Beach are new additions to the top 10 destination spots.
Some of the world’s best beaches and reefs are found in Queensland which of course is famous for its warm climate and a leader in the tourism sector in Australia. At the top spot on the national to 20, Sydney has maintained its position followed by Melbourne in second place. Adelaide rounded off the top five after the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
The said Australia’s Top 20 tourist destinations was compiled based on bookings made through Wotif.com during 2010 and was included a mix of capital cities and regional areas.
