Australia November 25, 2010 – Recently, there has been an increased in the number of skilled workers form other countries trooping to Australia to find a job. With the positive development in the country’s job market, more people, both locals and foreign migrants alike have been given opportunities to have the jobs that befit their qualifications. However, a recent study shows that there is some problem that some qualified migrants are now facing challenges.

A study conducted recently has shown that a number of qualified skilled migrants to Australia are seen to have problems in getting a job which matches their qualifications.

The National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling and the AMP bank released their report which stated that low-skilled jobs are more likely to be granted to migrants who are from non-English speaking countries rather than the locals of Australia.

Justine McNamara of the University of Canberra stated that this might be caused by the difficulties in getting foreign qualifications recognized. In general, she stated, there have been many migrants who were able to fit well in the society of Australia.

She further stated that migrants are doing very well for they are having strong participation in the country’s labor force and that many of them possesses high levels of education and were able to accumulate wealth. She also added that they have discovered there are also some migrants who are having some problems which are related to work and under-utilization of their skills.

Furthermore, McNamara stated that those immigrants who came from non-English speaking countries are facing more barriers in the labour market. She reported that they have found out that though there is a high level of tertiary education migrants present among the immigrants, quite a large proportion of migrants having tertiary education who were found not working in high skilled jobs. This figure, according to her, is higher in migrants from non-English speaking countries.
