Perth Employers Will Now Find it Easier to Recruit Needed Skilled Migrants
Perth July 25, 2011 – The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Minister Chris Bowen has recently announced that Perth, Western Australia will be under a sponsored migration scheme which will make it easier for Perth’s employers to hire overseas workers.
As Western Australia’s booming resource industry had caused a considerable strain on Perth’s workforce, Australia Immigration Minister Bowen said that Perth will now be included in the government’s Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme for the purpose of greater access to skilled migration; Perth employers will now find it easier to recruit needed skilled migrant workers and help them in their migration to Australia.
With Perth’s being listed as a regional employment hardship area under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, Australian employers who are desperate to hire overseas workers will now surely be pleased as it would now be easier for them to hire overseas workers.
According to Immigration Australia Minister Bowen, as skills shortages are not only limited to mining projects and Western Australia’s booming resources sector has led to local skills shortages, Perth’s employers, whether in the resources, construction, restaurant or other sectors, alongside cities in the Pilbara and Kimberley that were given special privileges, are now given first access to the country’s 16,000 sponsored visa places for foreign workers already in Australia as well as import skilled workers from overseas.
Furthermore, under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, the overseas skilled workers will be given opportunities to apply for permanent residency.
With the Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Industry predicting that the state will be in need of an additional 300,000 skilled workers over the next 10 years in order to cope with the predicted labor shortages, with 155,000 of those jobs to be created over the next four years due to export-led growth, the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme will surely help to address the genuine skill shortages in regional and low population growth areas of Australia.
Under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS), Australian employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia are allowed to sponsor overseas skilled workers under the Temporary Business (Long Stay) visa (subclass 457 visa).
