Australia, July 14, 2009 – Indian IT outsourcing giant Infosys plans to increase its workforce in Australia by 100 employees. The news came after the company was awarded the AUD $450 million application development and maintenance contract last week by telecom operator Telstra.

According to an Infosys spokesperson: “Infosys is recruiting for a variety of positions this financial year (April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2010) primarily at senior and middle levels. This may also include some junior level employees who have graduated within the last few years.”

“The growth will occur predominantly in Sydney and Melbourne, but also may see some people traveling to New Zealand for assignment,” adds the source.

The company currently has 2,500 staff members serving Australia and New Zealand clients. It has offices located in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney which house about 1,000 local employees. It specializes in back-office services to banks and other large companies.

In the three months to end of June, Infosys generate $1.2 billion in revenue, which shows a 2.9 percent year-on-year decline. While the global economic crisis shows an impact to its revenues, Infosys still counts Australia as it s third largest contributor to revenues.
