October 2010 is the limit for UK Tier 1 visa

October 27, 2010 – UK Government has announced that they will not be issuing any more Tier 1 or the General visas on October 2010 to those from outside UK who are to apply for the first time. However, the set limit is not going to affect those applications from dependents or those people from UK who have applied to switch to Tier 1 (General) from another category. It will also not affect those who are applying for an extension of their current Tier 1 (General) visas.

The Government of UK has implemented a short-term cap on its immigration on 19 July 2010. A monthly UK immigration limit on Tier 1 (General) Visas is implemented regularly and as such, they will be accepting new applications again on the 1st of Novemeber, 2010.

Those who are applying from outside UK is still allowed to lodge their Tier 1 (General) Visas application in October 2010 and should the application be successful, the visa will be issued when the limit allocation reopens.

The Tier 1 (General) Visa is granted to a highly skilled non-EU applicant who has successfully passed the points-based test. The applicant will be given this visa for him/her to be able to live and work in the UK. The said points test is based on criteria like age, previous earnings, academic qualifications, and the ability in the English language.

The delays in the processing for the Tier 1 visa is said to possibly increase in the future. It is probable that the delay will run out earlier and earlier. Those applications which are yet to be completed will have to be reconsidered on the following month of the visa allocation. In April 2011, the permanent immigration cap will mean that there will be fewer visas that will be made available. Until the Government changes its immigration policies, the situation is seen to grow worst.
