New Visa criteria for better skill migrants
Australia November 15, 2010 – News has it that applicants for an Australian visa is to face an array of new eligibility criteria.
Skilled migrants who are applying for any type of skilled visa for Australia are required to pass a new points-based test fashioned to target migrants who are more closely fitted to Australia’s requirements.
As stated by Australia’s immigration department the said changes is going to focus on better higher level of qualifications obtained in Australia, English language skills, more wide-ranging skilled work experience, and overseas and different age ranges.
Chris Bowen, Minister of the Australian Immigration stated that the changes to the points test mentioned are significant next step in the series of reforms to the skilled migration program declared by the Government in February the present year. He further stated that the modifications will set the fundamentals for a skilled migration program that is designed to respond to the country’s economic needs and go on to serve its interests for the medium to long term.
The previous test was not effective in targeting the best and brightest for Australian immigration, this according to Bowen. He added that the current points test has not always guaranteed to lead to outcomes which are consistent with the objectives of the skilled migration program. As an example cited, the present test puts a foreign student with a short term vocational qualification and one year’s work experience in Australia ahead of a Harvard educated environmental engineer who has three years of appropriate work experience.
July 2011 is the set date for the implementation of the said changes. The said changes are another step of Australia as a response to the country’s needs for more skilled workers for the various jobs and businesses that it has. These jobs are guaranteed to offer skilled workers a chance at a better career and a better life.
