National Security Jobs Cut Due to Budget
Australia, May 20, 2009 – dreds of government jobs have been cut due to the recent budget. Customs, border protection and federal courts are the most affected sector. According to Shadow Attorney-General George Brandis 475 jobs have been slashed across departments that service national security and justice.
Customs and Border Protection is expected to lose 220 staff members while the Australian Crime Commission is removing 7 percent of its staff. The federal magistrates’ court will be down by 130 jobs.
“The budget papers are the real ‘National Security Statement’ of the Rudd Government, revealing the deep cuts to crime fighting and national security agencies,” Brandis says.
