June 9, 2011 – Mobile commerce has finally revolutionalized Australian Retailers.

Data show that in the last quarter, there was a 25% month-on-month increase in total mobile payment volumes.
A rise in online transactions done via mobile phones in Australia was observed earlier this year, according to a Paypal specialist.
A report done by Paypal in cooperation with the Australian Retailers Association showed that 68% of Australian consumers are planning to use mobile devices for transactions and payments in the future.

Last year, mobile commerce market in Australia showed an increase of $155 million in total payments; while PayPal’s mobile payment volume grew 14 times the previous figure.

This upshot in mobile commerce market is said to be associated with the increasing proliferation of smartphone devices in Australia.
Plastic cards and cash may soon be less valuable payment medium as mobile commerce will soon gain momentum as Visa, a global payments technology company, has recently launched its new digital wallet service.

This new Visa digital wallet service will install a mobile application in your smartphones where your card information is stored so that you will be able to make payments using your phone to any retailers just by logging in with an email and password.
Just last March 2011, a trial on contactless payment system was undertaken by Visa and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) Banking Group that allows Apple iPhones and Google Android devices to be used like the payWave contactless cards.

Most Australian banks have issued Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards with contactless payment technology to its clients as an increasing number of Australian merchants are getting contactless card readers too.

With this recent development in the Australian mobile commerce market, work visa to Australia applicants are advised to learn more about this recent technology.

Working visa in Australia applicants should make inquiries about this new technology in order to make their stay here in Australia free of hassle.
Though this would not totally eliminate the use of plastic cards and cash; however, this would surely make the shopping experience more hassle free.
