June 16, 2011 – According to France’s de facto ambassador in Taiwan, the European country is very close to signing a working-holiday agreement with Taiwan as France and Taiwan are in the final stages of completing the negotiations.
The deal could be sealed before the summer break as the Taiwan-France working holiday program negotiations are in its final stage of completion, the Bureau Francais de Taipei Director Patrick Bonneville said.
With this upcoming development, France will be able to grant Taiwanese youth the working holiday visa soon.
If the negotiations will go through, France would become the seventh country that will be able to allow young Taiwanese to visit France while being able to supplement their income for their travels by taking on casual work.

Currently, Taiwan has working holiday visa agreements with six countries — Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany.
The Similarities: Taiwan-France and Taiwan-Australia Working Holiday Program
The Taiwan-France working holiday program is similar to the Australian Working Holiday and Work and Holiday programs which Taiwan is participating wherein the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will grant working tourist visa Australia to Taiwanese aged 18 to 30 years of age, who are interested in a working holiday of up to 12 months in Australia.
Under the Australian Working Holiday and Work and Holiday program, a temporary work visa to Australia, specifically Working Holiday visa, is granted to allow the visa holder to supplement the cost of their holiday through short-term employment.
Both Working Holiday Programs are aimed to encourage cultural exchange and closer ties between arrangement countries by permitting young people to have an extended holiday while supplementing their holiday cost with short-term employment.
After an accord is reached between the two sides, France will become a new working holiday destination for Taiwanese people as soon.
Name Change
Institut Francais de Taipei was changed to the Bureau Francais de Taipei or the French Office in Taipei in English, to avoid confusion between its original name and the Institut Francais. This is in accordance with the French government’s cultural policy abroad.
