Greyhound’s Treat for Australian Backpackers
October 7, 2011 – Good news for backpackers! Apply now for Australian visa online and enjoy Australia.
Greyhound Australia, Australia’s only national bus service, has finally acquired Oz Experience recently.

Oz Experience is a flexible hop-on hop-off touring network in Australia.
Gearing off for a major influx of youth on Australia visiting visa, Greyhound Australia has predicted that its plan for introducing bundled packages would lead to a 15% rise in passenger numbers.
With the purchase of the touring network, Greyhound chief operating officer, Tony Hopkins, stated that its acquisition is aimed to help revive both the domestic and international backpacker markets as well as deliver a whole new dimension of experiential holiday to their customers.
Greyhound Australia’s purchase of the touring network is part of the company’s strategic move towards a one-stop-shop approach for the backpacker market.
According to Chairman Mark Mentha, the one-stop-shop approach is believed to play a major component in the company’s future.
Moreover, Mentha believe that with the structural shift in the bus express market as a result of the low-cost carriers, Greyhound Australia has to make a significant shift in order to be ready to meet head-on the said structural shift.
Greyhound Australia services 1100 destinations in Australia daily. With this, Greyhound Australia believes that as backpackers like to experience, see and work within Australia particularly regional Australia, the newly acquired touring network, Oz Experience — with its online booking and emphasis on fun and flexible hop-on hop-off “must-see” Australian and New Zealand experiences — is an extreme complement to the company’s brand and packages that are already offered through Greyhound Adventures.
According to Tony Hopkins, Greyhound chief operating officer, the merger would give the bus company a much more strong toehold in the youth and adventure travel market.
During July 2011, short-term visitor who apply visa to Australia arrivals showed 485,300 visitors, which recorded an increase of 2.2% compared with June 2011, with only 474,900 short-term visitors.
With this visitor trend and the newly acquired Oz Experience, these would be a great chance for Greyhound Australia to represent, in the European market in particular, a single brand that can give Australia-wide packaged travel options to travelers.
Greyhound’s Oz Experience packages would bundle coach travel, tours, experiences and accommodation, which will provide backpackers better opportunities to save cash and avoid hassles with the convenience of booking through a single provider.
