Chefs and Cooks Back Australia’s SOL
October 12, 2011 – The Australia immigration department has relisted the chef and cook occupations! This is good news for chefs and cooks!
Though the chef and cook occupations are not relisted in the Australian Government’s updated SOL that applies to all independent or unsponsored skilled migration; however, they are included in the State and Territory SOL though in limited numbers.
So chefs and cooks must take this golden opportunity to apply for an Australian work visa as once a quota is reached, applications will be closed for the remainder of the program year.
The chef and cook occupations are relisted under the newly updated State and Territory Skilled Occupation List (SOL) 2011 – Schedule 1 and 2 under the Skilled Migration Program.
The State and Territory Migration Plans are agreements between individual states and territories with the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. These plans allow individual states and territories to sponsor General Skilled Migration (GSM) applicants under a broad range of occupations that is tailored to fill skills shortages within their local labor markets.
The State Migration Plans specify which occupations state and territory governments can nominate applicants under and specify the number of visas that will be granted as part of this program.
Under the State and Territory Migration Plans, chefs and cooks can now work in Australia. However, visa immigration to Australia applicants must act quickly and secure a nomination for each state and territory has set sponsorship quotas.
Chefs and cooks can apply for Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visas or Skilled Sponsored (Migrant and Residence) visas. These immigration Australia visas can enable them to be eligible for permanent residency as well as for an Australian citizenship subject to the residency eligibility criteria.
Chefs and cooks can also go to Australia by applying for an Australian working holiday visa. If they are under 30 years old and from arrangement countries, they can work in Australia as chefs and cooks on part-time basis while touring Australia.
