Australia’s cultural diversity celebrated on Harmony Day
Australia March 23, 2011 – Australia is a vast country, full of different people from different walks of life. It is a destination for most people coming from different parts of the world. It is a place for tourists as it offers scenic views and adventures of land and sea. It is a place for skilled workers where they can land the best jobs with sufficient wages. It is a place where people would like to settle in for the long haul. It is a place for immigration.
Thus, in Australia you can see a lot of people with different races practicing different cultures and traditions but still adapting to each other to become one community. It is but fitting to have a celebration where people having different cultures would come together and share their uniqueness and commonality. Harmony day was then created and celebrated yearly.
According to Chris Bowen, the Australian immigration Minister, Harmony Day is for all Australians to gather together and become one community and reflect on what makes their nation great.
Mr. Bowen said that it is a day to celebrate Australia’s diversity and people will be able to share the things they have in common. It is a celebration of Australia’s multicultural diversity and heritage due to its long history of immigration.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Senator Kate Lundy, said Harmony Day celebrations started since 1999 and it has gained popularity with increasing number of people celebrating it. As for this year’s celebration, it is set to be the best and biggest one yet.
Ms Lundy reports that it is expected that there will be 6100 events organized by the different and various community groups, businesses, schools, government agencies, and councils all throughout Australia. It is predicted that hundreds and probably thousands of people will show up in the events and that will be a glorious and prosperous one.
