Australians Abandon Jobs In UK To Return Home
November 17, 2011 – Many Australians have been seen abandoning their UK jobs for better jobs back home!
Along with the increase in the number of people on Australian visa tourist coming to Australia and as people with tourist visa in Australia are planning to visit for their holiday vacations, thousands of Australians are now leaving Britain and returning home in order to take advantage of the booming Australian economy.
Aside from better money and work opportunities back home, among the reasons for the exodus is also attributed to the unfavorable exchange rates and visa restrictions.
According to figures as reported in the Guardian newspaper, since 2007, there is a drop of 35 per cent to 17,100 in the number of Australians entering Britain for work and another drop of 40 per cent to 5,210 in the number of Kiwis.
For many years, Aussies and Kiwis were welcomed by many British employers into their workplaces. These British employers were fond of the Australian work ethics and easily transferable skills and qualifications. But with the booming Australian economy and a sharp appreciation in the Australian and New Zealand dollars against the pound, many of these Australians and New Zealanders, who once flocked to Britain in order to gain experience and earn valuable pounds, are now giving up on Britain as they are lured back eager to cash in on the better opportunities being offered back home.
Many Australians, who are already working in the UK believe that Australia has more opportunities and better wages than UK.
According to Simon Taylor of recruitment company Venn Group, the falling exchange rate was the main reason why Aussies are not anymore seeking work in the UK. He further explained that when the pound was still strong, Australians knew that they could save money while working. But with the recent fall in exchange rates, there is less incentive for them to work and remain in the UK.
Moreover, another reason for the Australian exodus is the ailing British jobs market where there are simply not enough jobs to go around and competition is high.
Meanwhile, the Australian government is implementing ways to boost its tourism industry.
As many Aussies are returning home, many foreigners are also applying for visas to Australia, particularly tourist visa to Australia, as the government is taking initiatives to boost its tourism.
Likewise, many overseas young people are applying for Australian work holiday visa as they want to tour Australia while taking advantage of the booming Australian economy. Though Australian holiday visas can allow people to visit Australia, it prohibits them to work. Thus, young people who want to work while holidaying apply for a work holiday Australia visa.
