Australian Visa Incentives to Attract Foreign Students
September 30, 2011 – In an effort to draw more people to apply for travel visas to Australia, especially international students applying for student visa Australia, the Australian Federal Government has recently announced that it will ease up on its international students’ restrictions.
In an effort to attract more foreign students to Australian universities and increase foreign students’ application for Australian visa, the government is said to loosen some of its visa requirements for overseas students.

Last September 22, 2011, the Australian Federal Government has released a report conducted by the former NSW Labor MP and the former Minister for the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games, Hon Michael Knight AO — the Strategic Review of the Student Visa Program 2011, an independent strategic review of student visa program that is aimed to enhance the quality, integrity and competitiveness of Australia’s international education sector, as well strengthen the integrity of the Student visa program.
The said report has called for reforms on the student travel visas Australia requirements.
Recognizing that the international education sector is one of Australia’s largest export industries and is a vital factor to Australia in strengthening bilateral ties with key partner countries, supporting employment in a broad range of occupations throughout the Australian economy, as well as delivering high-value skills to the economy, the Australian Government has stated to introduce a new streamlined travel visa Australia processing arrangements for a range of Australian university courses in order to have a much faster and easier travel visas Australia access for prospective students in time for second semester next year.
The planned streamlined arrangements will be implemented to foreign students who are enrolled in courses at the level of bachelor degree or higher.
According to the new visa arrangement, students enrolled in courses at the level of bachelor degree or higher, regardless of their country of origin, will be treated as though they are lower risk, similar to the current Assessment Level (AL) 1 requirements.
Moreover, a reduction of the student’s financial requirements— that is the amount of money students must have in the bank before coming to Australia will also be implemented.
