December 13, 2011 – Attention to those who are applying for working visa for Australia or for a working tourist visa Australia!

Good news, according to the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE), as latest report reveals that Australia’s buoyant mining sector, with its record mining investment totaling nearly $232 billion, is set to grow jobs and economic prosperity for the long-term.

With the mining and resource industry on aggressive hiring for skilled workers, Australia is currently facing serious shortage of professionals and trades people within the next 15 years.

The “Flipside” of the Mining Boom!

As many of the Australian workforces will be reaching retirement age over this period, according to an analysis of retirement patterns by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australian employers will be needing to recruit more and more overseas skilled workers on work visa from Australia to address the looming workforce shortage, particularly in health, engineering, and education professionals fields.

According to BREE’s latest data, capital investment in Australia’s already booming resources industry has soared by 34% to reach AU$231.8 billion (US$229.8 billion) in the year up to October 31.

Mineral exploration in Australia also hit a near record high, showing a total spending of $6.2 billion. This is double the average of the past 30 years. There were also indications that mining sector spending might yet increase further in the remainder of the current financial year.

Moreover, Western Australia is currently experiencing its largest skills shortage of mining trades people since 2008.
According to Western Australia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, WA will need more than 450,000 additional miners in the next 10 years.

New Scheme for 457 Visa Of Australia

Those with a job lined up already can be eligible to apply for employer-sponsored Subclass 457 work visa.
Effective November of last month, under recent updates to the 457 visa system, the amount of time a skilled overseas worker can stay in Australia will be doubled from three to six years for selected businesses.

According to Immigration Minister Chris Bowen, the recent updates would ensure that the 457 program can provide a much more flexible avenue for employers to fill immediate and short-term skill vacancies, while maintaining opportunities for Australian workers.

Moreover, DIAC is conducting meetings across the country as part of their outreach programme to encourage more employers to use the 457 visa of Australia process.

Meanwhile, Australia’s unemployment rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 5.2% in October 2011 from 5.3% the previous month. This maintains the country’s record as one of the developed and best performing labor markets in the world.
