Australia Targets Highly Skilled Workers
Australia June 23, 2011 – As an answer to Australia’s labor market shortage, the Australia immigration set this updated migration rules in order to filter the best skilled workers who can contribute a lot to the country’s economy and help build and stabilize the country.
New and updated migration rules are being proposed and to be implemented in response to Australia’s escalating skilled workers’ shortage.
Updated Points Test System
Effective July 1 this year, the new and updated Points Test system will be implemented.
Used to help select skilled migrants who can provide the best in terms of economic benefit to Australia, this points test mechanism is set to strategically choose the best people whose skills set fits Australia’s labor market needs.
Under the updated Points Test system, awarding of points are broadly focused on the following areas:
- better English levels
- more extensive skilled employment
- higher level qualifications obtained in Australia and overseas
- better targeted age ranges
Points will be awarded on the basis of a certifiable skilled employment history carried out in the last 10 years.
Updated Australia Visa Application
As Australia is faced with a shortage of qualified skilled workers as its mining industry continues to boom, the visa for Australia application will be undertaken in two stage process which is proposed to commence this July 1, 2012.
In this major reform in the way Australia selects skilled migrants; potential applicants must first register their claims for skilled migration through an online Expression of Interest (EOI), and then they must receive an invitation to make an application for a visa Australia before they can apply.
The updated visa application process is aimed to make certain that there will be a match between the number of applicants and the number of available program places, thereby consequently ensuring for the selection of the best, brightest and highly skilled migrants to come to Australia. This will is also streamline the processing times of the skilled visas affected.
