Australia, January 4, 2010 – Students from India who applied between July and October last year have been accused on documentation fraud. The decisions came from the Australian authorities to decline the admission to one-third of the Indian students.

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship refuses almost 33.2% of the 21,120 student visa applications between July 1 and October 31, a considerable boost from 6.5% in the matching last 2009. Nepal who achieved a total of refused visa application total of 38.8% and with Pakistan grouping it with a refusal rate of 30.8%. The figure of applications refused from China has in fact fallen from 13.6% last year to 8.7% this year. From the month of July to October 2008 throughout last year 2009 the total average of refusal rate from India has been increase from 7.2% to 14.3%.

Students that have courses under the vocational education and training sector, almost 40.6% od them have been rejected by the Australian Department. Throughout last year 2009, 32.4% more than the number turned down in the same sector.

Nepal has the highest refusal rate at 46% with Pakistan tagging it at 41.7%.

Universities Australia chief executive officer, a copy of which is with TOI, the department said: “A forensic analysis of applications found extremely high rates of fraud within the documentation being provided in support of student visa applications in India. Over 50% of cases analyzed contained at least one fraudulent document, with many of these cases containing numerous such documents.’’
