Announcing Australian Multicultural Council
Australia, February 23, 2011 – The Gillard Government claimed Australia as the best form of multiculturalism in the entire world.
Immigration Minister Chris Bowen declared the Australian version of multiculturalism a success. Governments in Europe and Britain slammed multiculturalism as a failed policy while in Australia it had strengthened the nation. In a speech to the Sydney Institute, the minister proudly said his confident in using the word ‘multiculturalism’ as he is proud of what it means to Australian life.
The minister also unveiled a new ‘national anti-racism partnership and strategy. This country down under is known to be the world’s best and fundamentally different to some developed countries such as Germany and UK in terms of multiculturalism.
This strategy has been seen effective as those foreign visitors who arrived in Australia where invited to celebrate their own traditions in a broader culture of freedom while maintaining the respect to Australian values. In addition, the emphasis on taking up Australian citizenship and the history of bipartisan political support for multicultural ideals were one of the fundamentals that have caused success to the country.
Australia recognizes at the same time celebrates different cultural heritages but insists that the country’s future is still common and shared. And this strategy has provide enormous impact and been known as the genius of Australia’s multiculturalism.
As Australia becomes the most visited and migrated country in the world, it also accepts different cultures and each country’s values are being recognized. Plus, traditions as well as other beliefs are being practiced and celebrated. The country also allows foreign languages to substitute for English language when the right word just cannot be found.
Although there are recent letters about multiculturalism suggest some people do not understand what it means. Multiculturalism implies divides rather than unites societies and often leads to violence. This practice is now acknowledged as a failure by the leaders of some countries like France, Germany and the UK.
But despite of this claims, Australia still believes that freedom and tolerance should be embraced in one’s nation for success.
