Most people seeking to educate themselves in Australia acquire a student visa and go to an Australian university or college. However, there are those that are already in the professional level or have already graduated from their respectful courses who want to continue their education via hands-on training.
There are two subclasses of Australian visas for sponsored training. The Professional Development Visa or Subclass 470 is for foreign nationals who are already professionals, managers or government officials wishing to undertake professional development training programs in Australia for up to 18 months.
An approved Australian sponsoring organisation must lodge the application on behalf of the applicants nominated by an overseas employer with which it has an agreement. This type of Australian visa is usually granted a month before the participant is scheduled to start the program. An additional two weeks stay beyond the duration of the program allows the visa holder to put his or her affairs in order.
Then there’s the occupational Trainee Visa or Subclass 442. This is for foreign nationals who wish to undertake a supervised and structured workplace-based training program or research in Australia on a temporary basis.
An Australian-based nominating organisation must provide the training for people who wish to enhance their skills in their present occupation, tertiary studies or fields of expertise. The training must be no more than 30 percent classroom-based. Additionally, it must not adversely impact occupational opportunities for Australian citizens and permanent residents. The nomination is valid for 12 months form date of approval.
The validity of this Australian visa may last up to two years, subject to the length of the approved program. An additional two weeks stay beyond the duration of the program is also allowed under this Australia visa type.
