Australia offers a Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) which allows employers of low population growth areas or regional areas to sponsor foreign nationals to work in Australia.
For applicants to be eligible for this Australian Immigration visa, they must be skilled workers from overseas to qualify for Subclass 119. To qualify for Subclass 857, they must be skilled temporary residents living in Australia. To apply for this onshore Australian immigration visa, they must currently hold a qualifying visa. Otherwise, they may still be eligible to apply if the applicant last held a qualifying visa 28 days before lodging an application.
This Australian visa allows the holder to live and work in the country on a permanent basis. They may also study in an Australian school or university, receive subsidized health care via Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, access social security payments after the waiting period, be eligible for Australian citizenship once the residence criteria has been met and sponsor people for permanent residence.
As this is a sponsored visa, an employer must nominate the position they wish to fill and arrange for certification by the Regional Certifying Body. The Australian visa applicant must accept an offer of employment from a nominating employer to be able to apply for this visa.
Employers from all areas of Australia are eligible except Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne and Perth. In addition to the eligible position being located in a regional area, it must also meet addition requirements. The position cannot be filled by an Australian citizen, must be a genuine full-time vacancy, should be available for at least two consecutive years and should be for a person of at least an Australian diploma level.
